Replace with a real interview. Two or three sentences is enough; the photograph does most of the work.

Wood carver · Hagaza

Which year of the apprenticeship he joined, the pieces he carves most, what he wants to make next.

Dyer · Akhmim

How the threads are dyed, and which colour is hardest to repeat between batches.

Consent comes first

Telling the artisans' stories is what makes this work different from anonymous handicraft. It is also personal information, so the rule is simple: nothing is published without the artisan's agreement, and any of them can ask to be taken down at any time.

Where someone prefers not to appear, the piece still carries her village and her craft — just not her name or her face.
